Most entrepreneurs resist choosing a niche, especially in staffing and recruiting. It feels limiting. What if you miss out on other business? What if you alienate current clients? Been there.
I started out generalist, too. But you know what? When I finally picked a niche, everything changed.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how choosing a niche will help you unlock massive growth. This is step 2 in my proven 5-step method to build an 8-figure business, and if you’re stuck scaling your staffing agency, this is where you start.
From Fear to Freedom: What’s Holding You Back From Niching
I hear the same objections all the time:
- “What if I lose my current clients?”
- “Do I need to change my entire website?”
- “What if it doesn’t work?”
You don’t have to ditch what’s working. But you do need to get intentional about who you serve. Think of your niche as a focus point, not a limit.
When I launched my first staffing agency, we focused on title insurance professionals. Super specific. And it worked. That focus helped us become the go-to in our market. We scaled to 800 contractors, expanded into adjacent verticals, and sold for $28 million.
Your niche can become your springboard, not your ceiling.
How I Picked My Niche (And How You Can Too)
I didn’t wake up with a perfect niche in mind. We picked title insurance because:
- We had warm leads.
- My dad worked in the industry and made some intros.
- We knew the pain points, and we could solve them.
You don’t have to know the entire industry inside-out before starting. You just need access, insight, and the ability to solve a specific problem.
Start here:
- Where do you have warm leads?
- What’s your background?
- What problems do you understand best?
Results After I Niched Down (Again)
Fast forward to my current business, ATeam at DPCo. It didn’t start in a niche either. I was coaching founders across all industries. But it was only when I focused specifically on staffing agencies and recruiting firms that things exploded.
Now? We get 3-5 inbound leads daily. My content speaks directly to my target clients. And our virtual assistant support agency has become the go-to referral in this space.
Why This Works for Staffing and Recruiting Agencies
The recruiting industry is flooded with generalists. You want to be the only one who does what you do.
A niche gives you:
- Clearer messaging
- Faster sales cycles
- Stronger client loyalty
- Community and referrals within that niche
It doesn’t mean you only take those clients, but it means you build your authority around them.
ATeam at DPCo: Built From My Niche Strategy
My virtual assistant agency isn’t just another VA service. It’s built specifically for recruiting and staffing agency owners who want to scale without burning out.
We help you delegate:
- Interview scheduling
- Inbox and calendar management
- Biz dev admin
- LinkedIn outreach
- And more!
And yes, niching down was the key to our growth, too.
Niche Is the Shortcut
If you want recurring revenue… If you want consistent leads… If you want the kind of business that sells for 8 figures one day, your niche is your power play.
Don’t overthink it. Start where you already have access. Solve one problem well. Go deep, not wide.
This isn’t theory. I’ve built two 8-figure businesses on this strategy. You can, too.
